Breaking the
Chains

Our year long programme enables Christian ex-offenders to live in community and be trained for serving as missionaries in a Western context.

Breaking the Chains is a twelve month training programme based at the Refresh Centre in Blackpool. It is an intensive programme living in community in Blackpool and help develop the skills required to be a missionary.

Is this for me?

The programme is aimed at Christian ex-offenders who have a desire to become missionaries and pioneers in the future. These people have a desire to bring transformation to their community through discipleship, and will go above and beyond to make this happen. They are willing to work alongside other churches, as well as set up projects. The programme has a practical and academic element, and those who join are expected to be fluent in reading, writing and speaking English.

If you can answer yes to these questions, then the programme may be for you:

  1. Do you desire to see your community transformed through the message and power of the gospel, no matter what it takes?

  2. Do you desire to follow Jesus and get to know him more intimately through a life of spiritual discipline, along with a pursuit of holiness?

  3. Do you desire to step out in faith and persevere in your calling to see His kingdom come on earth, even when you have to take up your cross?

What do I need to know?

Here's a few key things that you should know about the programme.

  • The programme is open to those over the age of 18.

  • It's open to Christians from across denominations, and we hope that anyone on the programme is attached to a local church. Refreshment UK is a member of the Evangelical Alliance and commit to the EA basis of faith.

  • The programme is suitable as a gap year, but is intense and should not be considered as a healing school.

  • The cost of the programme is supported through assisted living, or can be completed with personal support or sponsorship. This cost includes all food, accommodation, including heat and light, broadband and all living expenses.

  • The programme has been developed off the back of two decades of front-line mission work across the world. The board of reference of Refreshment UK includes people involved in international Christian ministry, as well as trained and respected theologians.
